Blogging Effectively With SEO in Mind

If you are not an experienced blogger at this point, you may not be aware that effective, successful blogging is about more than good-quality writing. There is definitely more to the formula for success and if you focus on that formula, you will see positive results from your efforts. Search engine optimization (SEO) is an important part of that formula.

Blogging Effectively

The formula for successful blogging

The truth of the matter is that there are many good writers in the world. If all it took were to be a good writer, your competition would be ridiculous. However, there are several different things that go into blogging successfully. Another important element is search engine optimization (SEO). Optimizing your content for the search engines is so important because, if you do it right, it will cause you to rank high on the search engine page and people will find you easily.
There are several different elements that you should keep in mind as you are optimizing your content.

    • Decide whether you are going to choose long or short keywords or key phrases: There are certain factors that should go into your decisions about keywords or key phrases. The first element is the level of competition that you have with your choice of keywords or key phrases. If you choose a keyword or key phrase that a lot of other people are using, it will be harder for people who are searching to find you and your business/brand. If you use keywords and key phrases that are more focused and more unusual, you have a better chance of being found easily. Of course, you will want to pay attention to the evergreen aspect of your keywords and key phrases as well. It is also a good idea to use your keywords and/or key phrases a few times (but not too many times) so that they show up in searches more easily. Overusing keywords and key phrases are not a good idea. Your rule of thumb should be to use them where they seem natural. They shouldn't seem forced. Your main goal is to contribute value to your readers/target audience members. If you have any question about where you should place your keywords and key phrases, you should put them in your blog title, teaser paragraph, subheads (whenever possible and relevant), blog URL, and meta-tag.

    • Ensure that your blog's images are optimized: Images are important contributors to your blog's success. That means that they must also be optimized. Your images, if done properly, will be recognized and elevated by the search engines. In order to optimize your images, you should give your images appropriate titles (including a keyword or key phrase). As is the case with the words that you choose to use, you should also be careful not to overuse keywords and key phrases with your images. You should try to limit them to what feels natural. Never force it.

    • Ensure that your blog is clear and easy to read: Considering that people nowadays have very little time and very little patience, you should write blogs that are easy for them to read or to scan. You want them to get enough of an idea about what you are communicating as a result of a quick glimpse. The fact is that the easier you make it for your readers to absorb your content quickly, the better your results will be and the better your chances will be of success. Some tips that may prove useful for you are effective use of hashtags, bulleted lists, short paragraphs, quotes (in moderation), and bold and italics (remember not to use them too much).

  • Use backlinks effectively: Backlinks are very important for you. You need to make sure that your links are functioning. Broken links frustrate your readers and they damage your business' reputation. You need to keep in mind that you have control over the links that you choose to use. That means that there is no excuse for their not working properly. If people are interested in what you are saying, they will click on the links that you provide. It is really that simple.

Conclusion

SEO is an extremely important contributor to your business' success. Discounting its importance will not help your efforts or your success in any way. You need to embrace the idea that SEO is here to stay and you need to recognize its importance. If you are not comfortable with SEO, you need to learn more about it. It is not tremendously difficult to learn how to optimize your content but doing it will make a tremendous difference to your business. Another thing that you should consider is optimizing your content for mobile devices. With the vast amount of people who view content on their mobile devices nowadays, it is a very intelligent thing to do.

Google Page Rank Update: What to expect?

There have been a lot of blogs written about the upcoming PageRank update of Google. Everyone is also waiting for the results of their marketing efforts to benefit their websites in terms of ranking factor. It is also the best way to determine how authoritative a website is in its industry. However, not all websites will benefit from PageRank update and not everyone should expect good results.

There are some factors that we should consider doing and focus on if we would like to increase the page rank of our website. But this does not guarantee you that it will give you the best results right away. This will only guarantee you that it will be very useful for you, your business and your websites in the long run. But before we jump into the techniques, let’s first discuss what benefits that we might get from having higher page rank.

google page rank

What to expect in May 2013 Google Page Rank Update?
  • Increases of Attraction – One of the great benefits that our website can get from having a good rank on Google is it will get more attention of other people. Believe me on this, it’s definitely correct. People are sometimes bias; they click on the websites with higher PR and when they do search for resources, some of them will go directly on websites with a decent page rank as they know and believe that websites with higher page rank is more resourceful than the lower ones.
  • Increases of Reputation – Once your website reaches a PR 5 or more, it will definitely build reputation to your website. People will often come back to check your website for good information and expect of tons of visitors that may come to your website from different platforms such as; social media, referrals, direct and organic.
  • Good Website Impression – This would also increase your CTR whenever your website appears in SERPs with the keyword provided related to your website. Most probably, your website will be listed in the first page of Google since you are recognized by Google as a good source of information within your niche.

So those are just a quick description of how your website will benefit from the PR update. There are some ways that you should practice to keep the flow of juices coming in to your website to help you increase the chances of getting higher PR.

Ways to increase your Page Rank
  • Guest Post – Contributing content for another website is actually a good idea. It is a new type of knowledge contribution on a website in a form of writing. It is also the best way of acquiring new visitors to a website in terms of referral. If you are able to guest post on a website with high domain authority, page rank and higher volume of visitors per month, definitely, your website will benefit from that website.
  • Frequently Update your website with quality content – Having your website updated through posts is a good idea. It is also the best way to pass juices of high quality links you acquired
  • Avoid Do-Followed on external sites – Well, it is obvious that if you have external links on your website and if they are do-followed, certainly, your website will pass juices on another website which you won’t benefit anything from or whatsoever.
  • Avoid Too much Web Advertisements – Your website will not look professional and interesting if your display many ads in footer, banner, and sidebar ads. Even in ads in the middle of content. It is something that over advertisements displayed which is something that Google does not like and it in Google’s point of view; this is considered as a type of link selling.
  • Limit guest posts on your blog – Having guest posts content on a website is an opportunity that will benefit both parties. However, if the content on your website are mostly from your guest contributors and your very own content is outnumbered by the guest posts, the flow of juices on your website is definitely will be distributed on other websites as well.

If you value the juices coming in to your website, then let’s not give it away with the websites linked to your websites freely. It is something that should work hard for in a form of content contribution in a limited way and in a quality way.

Guest Blogging: Do you think it is risk-free?

SEO industry was shaken several times by Google algorithms and this had caused many SEOs to change their link building strategies to cope up in this huge change in SEO. There are many strategies that were developed and analyzed carefully by SEO experts as alternative to the old fashioned link building tactics that we used to practice before Google rolled out their deadly solution to prevent spamming and unnatural linking activities such as:
  •  Manipulative Article Directory Submissions (thin, spun and low quality content)
  • Massive Social Bookmarking (spam)
  • Unethical Web Directory Submissions (keyword over optimization, keyword as anchor text)
  • Spam Blog Commenting (low relevancy)

  • Unethical Web Directory Submissions (keyword over optimization, keyword as anchor text)
  • Spam Blog Commenting (low relevancy)
Some scary facts about guest blogging:

You might disagree with me on this but guest blogging may become the reason why your website will be affected by the next Penguin update. We are all aware that penguin was designed to target link manipulated techniques and Google can easily identify if you are manipulating your links through guest blogging.

Here’s how:

Author Bio – This is a section where we briefly introduce something about ourselves, profession and business. Typically, we include links in the bio to drive visitors to our website in a form of anchor txt. Unfortunately, most people use their target keyword in the author’s box and they overuse the same author’s bio with the same target. Although, it is natural to have them same author bio description, it is unethical to keep having a link in the bio that pointing to your website.

Massive Guest posting – Guest blogging is becoming the new way of article directories but the difference is blog sites have regular readers, active social media attention. If you guest posted on twenty different related websites within your niche, all are highly recognized websites and all have the same author’s bio description with a single anchor text, it may look like  manipulative.

It is guaranteed that we will benefit from disturbing content to other websites but we should not overtake advantage of its benefits and only participate if necessary. Content contribution is the best way to introduce ourselves to blogs with established communities and increase our exposure but keep in mind that when linking our website in the post, it should come in a natural way.

Link Acquisition: What You Need to Know?

Link building used to be the main factor in SEO; the more links you build, the more chances your SERP will increase and the higher quality links you obtain, the more competitive your link building will be. But due to the unnatural linking and violation to search engine guidelines of many SEOs, Google launched their spam algorithms to filter the websites that are good ones and show up in SERP to give useful information to searchers.

As a result of Google's action, the world of SEO as we know it is dead or no longer effective. SEO has also become more complicated when the common types of link acquisition has been devalued by Google. Here are the common types of low quality links that we can easily get through the following:

Link Acquisition
·         Web Directories Submission - This was abused by using exhaustive keywords and by using deep pages of a website to be submitted to web directories.

·         Article Marketing - This was abused by using low quality and thin content. Article marketing was purposely used to manipulate links by unnaturally using a targeted keyword as an anchor txt.

·         Social Bookmarking - This was abused by using pligg sites. Social bookmarking is still effective but on high quality ones only such as digg, delicious and diigo and if your bookmark goes viral.

In the modern SEO, there are some important factors that you must know before you build links on a website. This will help you obtain high quality and relevant links that your website will benefit from in the long run and these are:

Domain authority – Page Rank is not that only factor that we should look at when linking our website to others. Domain authority is what we should also look at as this will benefit and give our website a strong link value which can also make our website stand out within our industry. Domain authority is rank from 0-100 and the ideal domain author is 70 up to 100. You can use Google chrome extensions to use free SEO tools such as Moz-Rank to help you know what the DA of a website is.

Update frequency - Also, a consistent website update through blog section update of a website determines how often a website is being visited and crawled by spiders. If the website you are planning to link to was last updated in 2011, this could trigger Google to doubt your link building performance as it is considered as unnatural linking in my point of view. Update frequency should be at least 4 times in a month or one blog post update in a week. This should be enough to consider a website as active, properly maintained in a regular basis.

Social media signals - After the roll out of Google algorithms, the value of social signals have become more important. If you are thinking of linking to a website with higher rate of social shares, it is a good idea as this would give you more exposure in other communities within you niche especially if you contributed a content with a link to your site.

Link building for the sake of increasing website links popularity and SEO strategies are not enough. Numbers of links don’t matter in Google’s eye but high qualities are. Therefore, you should be very careful when linking your site to others as this could negatively affect your website.

Keyword research: How to analyze your Target Keywords?

Keyword research is one of the key ingredients that we must focus on before we launch a website. Our success will also depend on how well we researched our targeted keywords to compete with our competitors in our industry. Through keyword research, you will determine the average volume of visitors that a website can have in a month.

This will help you choose which the best keywords to target are, so you must intelligently choose your keywords or else, you will not have a chance to compete in your chosen industry. But how do you perfectly choose your keywords to properly implement a strategy that you will have to focus o in the long run? You can use free keyword tool of Google to help you decide which keyword to choose and use for your website. Although there are some other keyword tools available on the internet, I will recommend this Google keyword because it's free and everyone loves free.

Google keyword tool - This keyword tool is free for everyone to use. All you need to have is Google mail account to have access and use their tool freely as many and longer as you want. This tool has a feature of monthly query of global and local date being looked for in Google so this will definitely give you a reliable result.

Assuming that you have an access to their keyword tool, you should know what type/s of keyword you will target to make your website rank in search engines. Below are the types of keyword that you should analyze one by one to ensure that you will only target the keyword with a high search volume.

Long tail keyword demand - Long tail keywords are consisting of three or more combined words used by searchers. This type of keyword has few average amounts of visitors per month but this will guarantee you that people who used long tail keywords are obviously looking for something in particular. Also, these people are often converted into leads and clients that you will need to cherish and value as long as the business is involved.

Below is a quick illustration what your keyword research should look like:

keyword reasearch

Keyword – Your ideal keyword for your business
Category – Where your keyword is categorized
Location – Your target Geographic Location and language
Search Volume Ideas – How often your ideal keyword is being searched for locally or globally per month.

See image below for the results:

Keyword research

Short tail keyword demand - This type of keyword is definitely has a huge amount of search volume per month but unfortunately, this will not guarantee you that all of these visitors are looking for the same thing. For instance, someone searched for link building. Google is smart enough to figure out which type of results they will provide in SERP as the keyword used itself maybe looking for "link building guide, services, strategy or tool", Google then will provide all the details they have related to the keywords used by the user. So this determines that there is no higher rate of conversion here when it comes to short tail words.

Keyword research

As you can see, the results are combined phrased, exact and broad keyword combination and the average search volume of for the exact keyword is 18,000. However, the geographical target location is only U.S so this result could grow up in a much attractive numbers!

Deciding which and what keyword to focus on requires an in depth study to ensure that your business will lose its track towards success. However, this does not mean that keyword alone is enough will make you stand out in your industry as there are other ways to make a website rank in search engines. You need to put an extra effort get the attention of your target audience by providing them useful articles with your keyword/s included naturally to ensure that people will find your website easily.

How to dramatically increase your organic visitors?

In SEO, there are few types of visitors to a website that we always look at to analyze which strategies that we are doing are still working and not working. We have organic visitors, social media referrals, ads campaign visitors, direct visitors and email referrals. If all are properly maintained and established, we can drive an over expected amount of traffic to our website in just a short period of time.

But let’s pay attention to organic visitors which is what off-page SEO is about. In the old days of SEO, we always say ''the more links we have, the more chances our website will appear in SERP''. But Google has changed so as the SEO. Google is so dedicated to providing what exactly the needs of people are in terms of search and if Google tolerates SEO practices which violate webmaster's guidelines, Google will not be able to provide what exactly is being searched for by the searcher.

Organic traffic

When Google rolled out their major algorithm updates, a lot of websites have lost their rankings and obviously, organic visitors which is a pain in the neck of many webmasters. But how do you increase your organic visitors after being hit by the update? Here's how:

Know what to write - Google loves content and in SEO industry, content is actually the competition and not only links. If you can produce a much better content than your previous content, you can once again gain the trust of Google. Assuming that all are unique, useful to readers and an evergreen content! The term "don’t write content for the sake of having content" is actually means don’t write content for specific period of time. If you can provide how to produce an evergreen content, this will help you stand out in the long run. But this is quite difficult though, however, no one can gain something without sacrificing anything.

Figure out who to write for - There are two types of content. One is for search engines and one for humans.
  • Content for search engines - Typically, these are the types of content that are mainly written to attract the bots to visit a website and to index the newly written content. It is to maintain the crawl and update frequency of the website. However, it does not matter if your content will provide useful information to its readers as it is only for search engine. Also, some of these contents might have been violated the Google webmaster’s guidelines by applying of keyword stuffing, cloaking or doorway pages.
creative writing

  • Content for humans - Obviously, these are the types of content that are mainly written to benefit the end readers and providing them the answers on what they need and looking for. Articles for the sake of humans are definitely high quality, unique and with sufficient information which completes the ingredients in an article. Also, this is what Google recommend every time I think about what happened in Panda and penguin update. Google once said "don’t write for search engines" and "don’t over optimize your website".

Claim Authorship Mark-up - To engage more people click on your SERP, photo of the author is absolutely important. Everyone likes to take pictures of themselves, family, friends and even their pets. If your professional photo will appear right next to your post, there is a higher possibility that your website will standout compare to other's who don't have. Your organic visitors will increase and your authorship rank will gain credibility.
Google authorship

Intelligently use your target keyword - To have your content only focus on a particular topic, you must include your keyword or at least partial of your keyword in title, body, rich snippets and tags. This is to help search engine identify what your website is about. So if someone searches in Google with your target keyword, you might have a chance to appear in SERP which will increase your organic traffic. But be careful with using your keyword as you might unintentionally exhaust them and your content could violate search engine guidelines.

Focusing in social media or ads campaign is not enough to make your business stand out in your industry. Although these are good source of traffic, it would be much better if you have organic visitors to your website as this will tell you how your off-page optimization is doing and competing with your competitors in search engines view.

10 Tips to Rank Higher In Search Results

Below you will find 10 SEO (search engine optimization) insider tactics coupled with 10 sites that will help you come up higher in search engine results. You may know it as search engine optimization (SEO) or organic search. Either way, you know it’s the sweet spot in Internet marketing. It’s something you can do to improve marketing results, right now.
SEO Tip #1: Put Out a Highly Optimized Press Release:
Make it a really good press release that is rich with information that your target audience will click on should they see it in Google or Yahoo News. If it is a well-crafted press release – one that is rich with keywords germane to your website – many should stumble across it. If the press release actually does have informational value (very few do), more sites and journalists will pick it up – and will probably post the links you placed in it. SEO-PR is a good site for you to send a press release through.
 Rank Higher

SEO Tip #2: Tweak Your Title Tags:
Don’t make the mistake so many sites make, which is to leave the default “Home Page” titles in the title tags of your website pages. These tags are a supremely important way to provide search engines with information about your site’s content and purpose. This Meta Tag Analyzer will analyze all the tags on your Web pages, from the title tags on down, and it will also tell you which keywords and phrases your Web pages are really optimized for based on how a search engine will read your page.
SEO Tip #3: Don’t Bite Off More Than You Can Chew:
Let’s face it, there are keywords in many categories that are hotly contested, like “refinance”, “Internet marketing” and so on. If you have 10,000 competitors jockeying for position in search results, your chances are pretty slim for coming up prominently in search results for that keyword. Boo hoo. What to do? The Cool SEO Tool shows you how your site stacks up against the top ten sites in Google for your chosen keyword or phrase. For example, using this tool to analyze how etailer LLBean.com is doing for the keyword “camping”, at the time of writing we learn that not only does LLBean.com does not rank in the top 10 at Google, but that competitor REI.com (which ranks in at #2) has three times as many pages indexed at Google and also has 48,000 incoming links as opposed to LLBean.com’s 369 incoming links. Looks like the SEO team at LLBean.com has some work to do.
SEO Tip #4: Optimize for the Right Keywords:
All too often, a company has its site optimized for the keywords and phrases it thinks their target audience uses to search, or keywords where it cannot possibly compete against the Internet’s biggest players. But they don’t really know – because they didn’t bother to check out what keywords and phrases people actually use when searching for their type of product or service. Wordtracker will give you a very good idea how many people searched for the keywords you think are hot over the past month. If you find that only 4 people actually used your favorite keyword search term, don’t panic. This tool will also suggest related words and phrases that will give you a higher yield and it will help you go beyond the obvious and uncover underutilized keywords and phrases as well.
SEO Tip #5: Plug the Keyword Holes:
Spell everything out and use acronyms, too – for example, write “Search Engine Optimization (SEO)”. Your target audience is just as likely (or maybe even more so) to search for the full term as they are for the acronym, so be aware of the multiple ways that the same information can be presented. VirtualPromote’s Keyword Density Analyzer tool crawls your Web page to see what the most prevalent search phrases or keywords are on that page, and then you can see what you’re missing.
SEO Tip #6: Think Like a Spider:
Before you do your next major website overhaul, take a few moments to see how your current site looks to a search engine spider when it comes to crawl and index your content. How fast the page loads is a major consideration that will determine how much of your page gets crawled. How much javascript, Flash and graphics get in the way quickly becomes evident when you see what a spider sees. These insights are the information you need when telling your webmaster how to reconstruct your site and individual pages in order to optimize your accessibility to search engine spiders. summitTOOL’s Spider Simulator will show you your website exactly as a search engine spider sees it – and make recommendations as to what needs to be improved.
SEO Tip #7: Submit Site Maps:
Both Google and Yahoo allow you to submit extensive site maps of your website, which helps them to more completely index your website. It’s definitely a good idea to learn how to submit your site to Google Sitemaps and to set up a regular site map submission schedule so that Google is always up-to-date with the newest information about your site.
SEO Tip #8: Inbound Link Tags:
It’s a lot easier to control the link tags on your own site, of course. But “off-page” search engine optimization (SEO) is helped a great deal by the copy that accompanies the inbound links found on other sites that are pointing to your site. “Click Here” or “Go To” is too generic. If your site is about search optimization, for example, it would be better to have the link tag read something like “Visit Inner Blogging for Top 10 Reasons Why Other Websites Should Point at Your Website”. The Neat-O Backlink Tool will not only show you who’s pointing at you, but it also will tell you what the anchor tags (links) actually say. It pays to contact the sites this tool lists in order to juice up the copy in the anchor text of those inbound links.
SEO Tip #9: Get Help:
If you’re responsible for a big site, it is in your best interests to get someone who really knows what they’re doing with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). A little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing. If you’re not an expert at optimizing a major site, you could have your site penalized or banned from the search engines entirely by unwittingly employing unsanctioned tactics (think SEO spam). The worst part is, you won’t know what you did wrong. Get trusted input for any major project. The search engine optimization field is a moving target. You want someone who’s up-to-the minute on the latest thinking and strategies. There are too many posers out there who are hawking hack services. Beware.
SEO Tip #10 Relevance & Frequency:
Search engines place great value on how often you publish to your website. Typically, the more frequent your publishing schedule, the more frequently search engine spiders check in with you. Add to this the imperative of publishing well-thought-out, quality content that is rich with desirable keyword phrases, Establishing blogs and RSS feeds are good gambits for meeting this objective.
